Information
At Eileithyia Birth Services LLC, I understand that you may have questions about our doula services. I am committed to providing you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your birth journey. Explore the answers to common questions below and discover how I can support you in achieving a fear-free, empowered, and educated pregnancy and birth.
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained support professional who provides emotional support, education, advocacy, and physical comfort throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum transition. While I don’t replace your medical team, I help you understand your options, feel confident in your decisions, and create a birth experience that aligns with your goals and values.
How can a doula support me during labor?
Labor can be unpredictable, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. I provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout labor and birth. From comfort measures and position changes to helping you understand your options and supporting your partner, my goal is to help you feel safe, informed, and confident every step of the way.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes, I offer virtual or consultations to ensure accessibility and convenience for our clients.
When should I hire a doula?
The earlier the better, especially if you’re interested in a Full Journey Package. That said, many families hire me in their third trimester or even later. Whether you contact me at 8 weeks or 38 weeks, I’ll meet you where you are and provide the support that best fits your needs.
Do you support epidurals, inductions, and cesarean births?
Absolutely. My role is not to push a specific type of birth. Whether you’re planning an unmedicated birth, epidural, induction, VBAC, scheduled cesarean, or something entirely different, you’ll receive the same compassionate, evidence-based support. This is your birth experience, and I’m here to support your choices.
Do you replace my partner?
Not at all. I work alongside your partner, not instead of them. Many partners appreciate having someone in the room who can answer questions, offer guidance, and suggest comfort measures while they focus on supporting the person they love.
What makes your approach different?
I believe every family deserves to feel safe, respected, informed, and supported. My approach combines evidence-based education, advocacy, emotional support, and practical comfort measures in a judgment-free environment. I support all types of births and all kinds of families, helping you make decisions that align with your values—not mine.
Where do you provide support?
I proudly serve families throughout North Idaho and Eastern Washington, including Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Hauser, Sandpoint, Spokane, Spokane Valley, and surrounding communities. Travel outside my standard service area may be available for an additional fee.
What is the difference between a doula and a medical provider?
A doula provides emotional support, education, advocacy, and comfort measures throughout pregnancy and birth. Unlike doctors and midwives, I do not provide medical care, perform clinical tasks, diagnose conditions, or make medical decisions. Instead, I work alongside your healthcare team to help you feel informed, supported, and confident in your choices.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. I believe every family deserves access to quality doula support. Flexible payment arrangements may be available depending on your package and due date. Please reach out to discuss options that fit your family’s needs.
Can I use insurance, HSA, or FSA funds?
Many families are able to use HSA/FSA funds or seek reimbursement through their insurance provider. Coverage varies by plan. I can provide documentation or a superbill when applicable, but I always recommend contacting your insurance company directly to verify benefits.
